This was the first ever Super Bowl played in the rain. Could you imagine paying all of that money to watch the game and you end up soaked? I am thankful I was watching it inside safe and dry (and probably with a better view!) ;)
In winning the game Indianapolis became the first "dome team" to win a Super Bowl in an outdoor stadium.
Tony Dungy also became the first African American to win the Super Bowl as an NFL head coach, as well as only the third man to have won the Super Bowl as both a head coach and a player (along with Tom Flores and Mike Ditka).
Other random trivia:
No NFL team has ever played the Super Bowl on its own home turf.
The designated "home team" alternates between the NFC team in odd-numbered years (the Chicago Bears in 2007), and the AFC team in even-numbered years (the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2006).
In 6 of the last 7 Super Bowls, the team that won the coin toss went on to lose the game.
The NFC is nearly twice as likely to win the coin toss as the AFC. They have won the coin toss 27 times compared to 14 times for the AFC.
In the 41-year history of the Super Bowl, every team that has won the coin toss has elected to receive the opening kickoff.
From 1999 through 2005, only one (Tennessee, 2000) of the seven teams that lost the previous Super Bowl qualified for the playoffs (and on average the seven teams won 5½ games fewer in the season following a Super Bowl defeat), a collapse known commonly as the "Super Bowl Hangover".
