Super Sunday!!!

It's heeeeeerrrrrreeee!!!! Ok, maybe it is not that exciting, but it is to me!! I am so excited about this game-you see, I have a friend who plays for the Colts and who has been with them for 8 years...therefore I have been a fan of the Colts for about 8 years (even though I grew up a Cowboys fan and still cheer for them somewhat). His name is Hunter Smith, and he is the punter (and the holder, which if you watched the last Cowboy game we all know this is a REALLY important position), yes Hunter "the punter" Smith, I know. I went to camp at Iron Springs Christian Camp in Whitney, TX with him WAY back in the day, and at that time he was heading off to Notre Dame. This is a picture of our brother cabin my sophomore year in high school (last year as a camper), and he is the tall, handsome one on the left. We all joked about how we needed to get his autograph because he was going to go pro someday, but I really did (twice). Actually, it was in those memory/autograph/address books that you get at the end of camp where everyone tells you that it was the most incredible week of their lives and they will never forget you :) He is actually holding his in his right hand. I found mine again a few months ago, and here are the two things that he wrote:

Katherine, It has been a great week of camp. I'm so glad you are here & I have gotten to know you mo bettah. I'll write more later. In Him, Hunter Smith

Kat, I am writing more later. Thanks for singing with us in the talent show. You truly are a friend & I love you for it. Follow the Lord's path all your life. In Him, Hunter Smith #17

Yep, he really did say "mo bettah". Gotta love it...

I also found this article that he wrote on humility:

One of the biggest challenges about playing in the NFL is remaining humble. With so many people idolizing the players, the game, and all of the fame, status, and money that go along with it, it's practically impossible not to fall into that trap. That's why I constantly ask God to keep me humble, to give me the courage to remain vulnerable before Him and others. It's the only way I can stay grounded, and it's something I certainly can't manage on my own.

My journey toward humility began at a church camp when I was twelve-years-old. After becoming a Christian there, I spent the next ten years committed to living for God. But it wasn't until college when a pastor challenged me to allow Jesus to take full control of my life that things really started to ramp up. Since then, I've come to see that God is not some vague idea or fairytale. He's living, breathing, and active in the world. I've given Him full access to my heart and soul 24/7, and He has never let me down.

To me, humility means realizing that God is God, and I am not. It's not about putting myself down; it's about lifting others up, giving credit where credit is due. Playing on this team is a tremendous privilege. It's great when people recognize our achievements. But I never let myself forget that God is the one who got me here, and He did it for His glory, not mine.

He was always a humble and extremely talented Christian man, and it has been a lot of fun watching him play!! Of course, along the way I fell in love with Peyton Manning and the whole Colt team (especially watching the Manning/Harrison connection, and other players like Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark-they just usually click so well with Peyton-it is beautiful). They all just seem like they play with heart and passion, and it is not about the show, but about the game. I love and appreciate that! Most of them give credit to God, and really mean it-they are just not saying it on TV. Hunter is one of those people-he is genuine and is an example for many. I am so looking forward to this game!!

GO COLTS GO!!! :)
