The Camp Experience Part 1

Ok, before I go any further...I have some very exciting news...the Mountain Top CD is finished!!! I am WAY excited about that, it isn't completely finished but there is a master copy and I will be receiving it this week!! Anyway, it should be completely done in about 2 weeks, so please get one when it comes out!!:-) Ok, so there is my plug...

So the adventure continues...again, we had another early morning on Wednesday, the 9th because I got up at 4 a.m. after having gone to bed at about midnight, so we could be at the airport to catch our 6:20 flight to Ketchikan, Alaska. There were 10 of us that went to camp: me, Daniel (the intern), Cy and Maria and their two adorable boys: T.J. and Justin, and then four teenage boys (Oh my!). We arrived there about 7:30 and it is a tiny airport-there is only one terminal, which is so foreign to me (esepcially after flying out of DFW)! After arriving, we took a ferry across the river, and then we got in cars and drove a little while to a dock, where we loaded all of our gear for camp onto a boat, and then we all climbed into a fishing boat and rode for about an hour and a half, and it was such a beautiful ride!! The weather was also awesome, although it did get cold out on the water. Anyway, once we docked, we unloaded all of our stuff and had to carry it about a quarter of a mile where it was loaded onto more boats that headed to camp. THEN...we hiked another 2 1/2 miles to camp. But let me tell you the best and most surprising part of all of this...I packed ALL of my stuff for a week of camp into a hiking backpack, which as we all know is a HUGE feat for me!! So thank you...thank you very much! I know you are all impressed.

The camp was small but really neat, it was surrounded by tons of trees and a beautiful river flowing down below. We arrived there at about 1:30 in the afternoon, but the food has to be flown in by helicopter and it had not arrived yet. The wonderful cooks found some food to make some sandwiches, so we were ok! They usually have to send in 3 helicopter loads to get all of the food in, but they could only load it onto one, and it came about 30 minutes later. But believe me...we didn't suffer! That was the best food that I have EVER had at camp, it was amazing, and the cooks were the most precious people! All of the people were so wonderful, and the coolest thing was that they were from about 8 different denominations and from Alaska, California and Canada! There were about 50 or so people in all, which is the smallest camp I have ever gone to, but probably one of the best I have ever been a part of! They were really salt of the earth people and blessed me tremendously...which I will continue to tell you about in part 2...
