What a beautiful place!!

So, here I am in Alaska and the adventure has begun! It was an adventure just getting here! I missed my first flight out of DFW on Monday, the 7th because we left the house too late, got into traffic, and missed my 7:59 flight! My luggage was also overweight, so my mom and I had to sit in a corner of the airport and unload about 15 pounds of stuff out of my luggage, which was pretty crazy! Anyway, I finally got on a flight that left at 9:20 from DFW, had a short layover in Seattle, and then finally arrived in Juneau at about 2:45 (Alaskan time, 5:45 TX time), about an hour and a half later than was expected. There was a big welcoming party at the airport when I landed and they had signs and everything, so that was a wonderful greeting! The funny thing was that the other intern, Daniel had also missed his flight and was on the same flight with me from Seattle to Juneau, but neither one of us knew it because we had no idea who each other was!

Needless to say, it was an incredibly long day since I had gone to bed at about 1 a.m. and then woke up at 5 a.m. to catch the flight (that I missed), and then there was a 3 hour time change in the midst of all of that...so I was pretty exhausted by the time I arrived! Oh, and it doesn't ever really get completely dark here in the summertime, so that was a little strange, and then it starts getting light at about 3 in the morning, but so far it hasn't really bothered me any, it just takes a little getting used to!

Alaska sure is a beautiful place!! LOTS of big trees (Dave, if you are reading this...they are definitely big 'ol stinkin trees!!), snow capped mountains, lots of water (We are practically on an island) and a huge glacier!! It is just amazing, you can see God's wonderous creation ALL around and it is breathtaking...I may never return to Texas!!;-) The people are wonderful here, we had a picnic out by the water last Tuesday with most of the members of the church, so that was wonderful and a great time of fellowship and fun!

Anyway, I am WAY excited to see what the summer has in store and how God is going to use me! There is so much more to tell because I am about a week behind...but I will catch up soon, and pictures are definitely on their way...until then, good night and God bless!!
